The first American Girl store opened in Chicago in 1998. In 1995, the company introduced what would become the My American Girl line with customizeable dolls that allow girls to select skin, hair and eye colors so the doll can look just like they do. Now the company sells more than four dozen versions of the dolls, including a limited-edition "Girl of the Year." The 11 original Pleasant Company historical character dolls, especially if they've been retired like Felicity, can fetch hundreds if not thousands, on eBay. She was retired in 2013, but re-released this year.
